Name: Bragg Hill Community Garden

Year Awarded: 2022

Type Awarded: Grant

Details: We believe it is important for people to understand why organic gardening is critical for both the climate and the health of residents. It offers a lifeline for people to understand organic food production and composting, which leads to urban sustainability, especially for low-income neighborhoods with high rates of food insecurity. UMW students will work alongside Bragg Hill community members to create a student gardening club to grow food and promote education about organic food production, composting, and urban sustainability.

Status: Ongoing: Fully organic methods were used to build garden beds, plant seeds, create and use compost, and maintain the food grown in this community. An outdoor vermicomposting project was initiated, and a UMW student-run gardening club was formed. https://bragghillgarden.org/
