Name: 2025 JFETF Environmental Guardian Community Outreach Award

Year Awarded: 2025

Type Awarded: Grant

Details: Today’s youth will face terrible consequences if we continue ignoring the effects of climate change. The future needs young activists who will become the next generation of environmental leaders. Year-after-year, the world’s climate is heating up and people need to take action to reverse this. All nominations should discuss what the candidate did, including describing the project, its results, and its recommendations.

Status: The 2025 Environmental Guardian Award goes to Lynn Godfrey for her commitment to protecting the environment, educating community members, and organizing citizens to fight for environmental justice. Lynn’s career began in state government, where she worked on community education and environmental projects. Her work inspired her to complete her MPH at EVMS. In 2019, she joined the Sierra Club and served as Community Outreach Coordinator. Her projects educated and engaged community members while leading to real change. She worked with the SAVE Coalition, which successfully stopped the creation of the VNG HIP, C4GT Gas Plant, and Chickahominy Gas Plants. Recently Lynn helped defeat the Lambert Compressor Station, effectively halting a major pipeline project. According to her former manager, “Lynn is a special type of human being. She's driven by an unmatched sense of justice, and is never deterred by setbacks. A true champion for environmental justice, emulating everything the climate movement should reflect.” JFETF is grateful to Lynn’s continued work to protect our planet.
