Name: Build and Maintain a Nature Trail on School Property

Year Awarded: 2022

Type Awarded: Scholarship

Details: The environmental club at Colonial Forge High School in Stafford, VA, is hard at work to build an educational nature trail on school property. This trail will be accessible to all teachers and students and includes features such as a water testing station, plant identification signage, access to different ecosystem successional stages, etc. Funds will be used to purchase materials to create and stabilize a trail through existing woods.

Status: Complete: Amber Livingston and Arlie Munday, the officers of Colonial Forge’s Environmental Club, inherited the nature trail from it's founding members. Every year they maintain the trail by laying down new mulch, raking leaves, and trimming obtrusive tree branches. As the leaders this school year, they have extended the nature trail and are planning to add an outdoor classroom. They want to provide Colonial Forge students with the opportunity to further their education in a natural environment and have access to a change of scenery, away from the monotony of the traditional classroom. They are passionate about this project because they care deeply about our campus and are committed to upholding the values and goals of our longstanding club.
